| London United Tramways type X open top bogie car | |
|
|
One of the 50 Type X open top tramcars numbered 101 to 150, built in 1901 by Geo. F. Milnes & Co. Ltd., of Hadley, Shropshire, for the London United Electric Tramways (LUT) for use on the Uxbridge Road service between Shepherds Bush and Ealing, later extended through to Southall. These cars were unusual in that, unlike the majority of British tramcars of the period that had a semi circular dash panel, they were originally built with a distinctive double convex - concave dash panel. The cars were delivered in an overall “white” livery, although this may have been “off-white” or light cream. At the time the service was extended to Uxbridge in 1904, the dash panels and waist panels were repainted in “Chrome” yellow. Sometime around 1908/9 most of these unusual dash panels were replaced with the more common half-round type and the cars were repainted in Vermilion red and white in common with other classes of car owned by the company although some of the cars retained their original dashes until they were scrapped in 1924.
